He co-founded Shawmut Capital in 1997 with Joel Alvord, the former Chairman of Shawmut Bank and of its acquirer, Fleet Financial. Dan was responsible for all aspects of the formation and building of the firm and led the partnership's investment activities.

Beginning his private equity career in 1990 at Summit Partners in Boston, Dan helped establish the firm's growth buyout and recapitalization group. His investments at Summit included expansion equity financings, shareholder liquidity recapitalizations, and leveraged acquisitions of divisions of larger entities.

Prior to joining Summit, Dan was an Analyst in the Technology M&A Group at Alex. Brown & Sons, a Baltimore firm specializing in investment banking services for growth companies.

A graduate of Harvard College, where he received an A.B. in Economics, Dan is married and has two sons. While his main interest outside of work is spending time with his family, he has been known to attend more than his fair share of Boston-related sporting events.
